Drum LED still flashes after changing a Brother DR3000 Drum Unit

In addition to a toner cartridge your Brother laser printer also requires a DR3000 drum unit to print. When you change toners your printer can tell when a new one has been installed by checking key points of the cartridge. It is not possible however for your printer to do this with a DR3000 drum unit and your printer requires a prompt to reset its internal counter that estimates the life of a drum unit. If left un-reset the drum LED light will continue to flash.

We recommend that you continue to use your current drum unit until the print quality begins to deteriorate before replacing it and resetting the counter as detailed below.

Will this reset work on my printer?

The steps detailed below have been confirmed for the following printers:

Brother HL-5130, HL-5140, HL-5150D, HL-5170DN

How to Reset a Brother DR3000 Drum Counter

  1. Open the front cover of the printer. Your printer will have a cover release button or a raised lip to help you do this.
  2. Replace the drum (if you haven’t done so already).
  3. Hold down the GO button on the top of the printer until all four visible LEDs are lit.
  4. Close the front cover of the printer again.

The counter should now be reset. If the drum LED is still lit please run through the steps above carefully again.

I hope you have found this brief guide useful. If you have anything to add or have any further questions please let us know in the comments below.
