Drum LED flashing after changing a Brother DR3200 Drum Unit

If you have recently changed the DR3200 drum in your brother printer and have found that the drum LED light is still flashing it is likely that the drum counter was not reset upon installation. Unlike Brother black toner cartridges the DR3200 drum unit requires that the printer is told when the drum is changed. This reset is very simple and can be performed by following the steps below even if the drum unit has already been changed.

Will this reset work for my printer?

This drum reset procedure has been confirmed for a variety of printers including the Brother HL-5340D, HL-5340DL, HL-5350DN, HL-5350DNLT and HL-5370DW.

How to reset the drum counter.

Before running through the steps below, please make sure your printer is on and in a state that it would be ready to print.

  1. Press down the cover release button and open the front cover of the printer.
  2. Remove the drum unit and toner cartridges assembly.
  3. Re-install the drum unit and toner cartridge, but leave the front cover open.
  4. Hold the Go button down for approximately 4 seconds (or until all 4 LED’s are lit).
  5. Close the front cover.

The drum light should now of stopped flashing for an estimated 25,000 pages. Please bear in mind that if the drum was reset sometime after it was physically changed then your print quality may deteriorate prematurely due to the additional wear that your printer is unaware of.

I hope you have found this brief guide useful. If however you have any questions or anything else to add, please let us know in the comments below.
